Gathering of the Las Cruces Mob at Winkler’s

Nolan and Winkler were kind enough to host all of us WBHD types to their compound in Hillsboro for lunch.  Great, and beautifully creative tucker/chow, lots of laughs, and of course the awed envy of the complex and art.

Yes, and flocks of sheep and cattle come to mind as well.

Winkler explains one of his sculpts, through the gap in his winsome smile where he’d just knocked out a tooth.  The grounds are a treasure trove of exotic metal and found objects, Trevor would enjoy for sure.

We got a tour of Winkler’s workshop/bike storage shed as well.  I hadn’t seen that on my last visit, so here are some pix.

That’s Catherine & Don Brenner, Winkler, and Joel Brown.

Everyone was envious of all the storage, work, and play spaces….highlighted by a visit to Nolan’s studio.

We enjoyed the company of plenty of birds, but no deer today.  Everyone wanted Nolan’s stackable serving plates/bowls.

Especially the flies…as you know from Oz, open range, heat and rain brings all the little flying friends to the table.  I am sure you will recognize the “wave” in the photo below!

All in all a wonderful afternoon!

  1. Looks like a wonderful day all having such fun!! good food and company in such interesting surrounds!! Nolan your studio gallery home workspaces look a haven to live and breathe art.

  2. Winkler and I had a swell day with the group. All NICE people and talented, too…who could ask for more? One mention….my studio looks like it did over a month ago when Dave took other shots of it….that’s because I’ve had a month of calligraphy and art backdrops to do for a couple of calendars and some greeting cards. That’s why the same work is up. Sigh. Those jobs are over now and it’s MY time to get back to REAL artwork. O boy.
