Sunsets and Waterfalls

The monsoon season is truly here now with regular afternoon thunderheads, dramatic sunset skies, and the glory of running, gurgling waterfalls in the canyons.  Just watch out for the flash floods.  Here’s a sampler of some of the sights over the past few weeks.

If you hike up the canyon in the middle of the scene above, you will find these waterfalls.

Nature boy enjoyed a dip in the last, but will spare you the photos.

The rain has created an explosion in wildlife activity, with the desert greening up and flowers starting to appear.  The male lizards are turning bright colors, and I only found one poor solo red spotted frog at Fillmore Falls….the rest were all tandem, feeling nature’s call.

ImageI’m still working on a large watercolor of Fillmore Falls (above), from a year ago when it was dry, but full of zig-zags of purple rock patterns.

  1. Beautiful! Love those Yucca trees … and those mountains 🙂 Never got to see water flowing though, so might be an excuse for a revisit!
